Practice Nurse

Nurse Ireland are seeking to recruit a Practice Nurse for our client in North County Dublin. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Mid Wife who is looking to work day hours and perhaps work part time.

To assist General Practitioners in the care of patients, to provide nursing care to include treatments, preventative care, screening and patient education. While this sets out the duties of the job, over time, the specific requirements of the job may change and you are required to be flexible and carry out all reasonable requests of the Employer/Principals

? Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols including but not limited to
? Wound assessment and dressing
? Provide health-screening services to the patient population, with referral to GP as necessary.
? Family planning clinic advice
? Ante-natal care as training allows
? Printing of repeat prescriptions already authorised by doctors for their signatures.
? Ear syringing
? Injections
? Baby immunisations ensuring that population targets are reached and that recall procedures are followed. Responsible for ensuring that all claims are returned to the relevant Health Board for payments.
? Vaccinations- both opportunistic and planned.
? Responsible for assisting the doctor in minor operative procedures including the preparation of the surgical room and the patient.
? Provide cervical smear screening for the appropriate practice population with relevant recall procedures.
? ECG testing
? 24 hour BP monitoring
Pathological specimens and investigative procedures

? Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including blood samples, swabs, smears etc.
? Perform any investigative procedures requested by the GP that the nurse has competence to perform.
Administrative, professional and business responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team

? Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in patient notes.
? Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice.
? Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information and audit information required for regular and ad hoc reports
? Assist in the preparation of repeat prescriptions for long term medications for patients.
? Attend and participate in all practice meetings as required.
? Assist in the formulation and implementation of practice philosophy, strategy and practice management policy.
? Responsibilities for healthcare education and training of students of all disciplines and the induction of all members of practice staff with special responsibility for nursing staff.


Must be a Registered General Nurse with An Bord Altranais
